Peru has 27,000 hectares of mango, 80% of which are in Piura, while the rest are distributed in Lambayeque and Ancash. The Piura Department experiences generally high temperatures year-round, and is also exposed to El Nino, which causes anomalous warming and temperatures 3 degrees Celsius or more above normal.
When this phenomenon is prolonged, rainfall occurs during summer months, causing disease and pest proliferation in crops. Irregular or poor flowering in mango under these conditions is one of the main causes of economic losses for producers in the region.
Photosynthetic stimulation during the floral induction period is a key strategy to ensure uniform and abundant flowering. A controlled supply of metabolic energy at the critical moments of the phenological cycle allows the plant to compensate for adverse climatic conditions and express its productive potential with greater consistency across cycles.
