With the aim of mitigating the effects of salt stress on plants, Innovak Global formulated and developed Balox, a polyphenol-based biostimulant that can be applied through technified irrigation, at the plant base, or as a drench. It contains active ingredients that influence plant metabolism, inducing the biosynthesis of specific cyclitols that act as compatible solutes to regulate osmotic potentials within root and plant cells, conferring tolerance to salt stress.

Dr. Javier Zuzunaga reports that evaluations were conducted in Europe at both physiological and metabolic levels on Balox's responses across multiple crops, measuring biometric parameters, growth indicators, and biochemical stress markers. Measurements included photosynthetic pigment levels, ion contents (Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Cl-) in roots and leaves, and leaf concentrations of common plant osmolytes (proline, glycine betaine, and total soluble sugars).

The main advantage of Balox is that it increases productive yield under saline conditions. It is not a desalinator - its primary effect is not on the soil but on protecting the root zone directly, regulating the entry of ions (mainly sodium and chlorides) from the roots to the aerial part, favoring calcium and potassium uptake, and contributing to improved salt tolerance in plants. All results have been published in high-impact scientific journals.
